How to use Teamcraft to create or edit a gearset, and estimate the amount of materia needed to complete a build for your gear, especially when overmelds (also known as Advanced Melding) are involved
Using Teamcraft's Gearsets and Lists features, we can create a list of items needed to craft your desired gear set, along with an expected amount of materia required to finish the melds on your set.
The materia estimates for overmelded (Advanced Melding) slots assume your RNG (overmelding success luck) is relatively average. You may unfortunately find that you require more or fewer materia to complete the build; Teamcraft merely tries to provide a reasonable expectation for what the average person melding the set would need.
How to generate an estimate from a Teamcraft gearset
There are two methods by which you might have a gearset from Teamcraft that you'd like to estimate required materia for.
First, you may easily create your own gearset using the Gearsets tool, found under General > Gearsets in the sidebar on the app/website. To begin, simply click the "New gearset" button and select your desired job from the dropdown, then give your set an appropriate name.
Then, you will enter Edit Mode for the Gearset, and can now fill in any materia you like to create your own set, and even select an appropriate food to see what your final stats will be while it is active. It is possible to switch to View mode using the eye icon in the upper-right corner to continue with this guide.
If you're not sure which materia to meld, you may use the second method: copying a gearset linked by someone else, such as the ones listed in many guides on Teamcraft Guides, or other sources like The Balance's Discord. On the Teamcraft Guides site, you may click the button in the lower-left to open the set on Teamcraft:
Once you have the link to someone else's set open, click the button in the upper-right to copy the gearset onto your account.
If you do not copy the gearset, the gearset will not be saved to your account and you will not be able to edit it or track your progress on completing it.
Once you have copied the gearset to your account, you should go straight into View Mode on your copy of the gearset (accessed from the eye button in Edit Mode). See Viewing and understanding materia estimates below, or continue reading for how to do this with an external link such as Ariyala.
How to generate an estimate from an Ariyala/Etro/etc. link
The second step is to open Teamcraft's Gearsets feature, found on the sidebar of the app/website under General > Gearsets.
Third, you will want to use any of the buttons at the top to import a list from your desired source:
Fourth, you may now follow the below guide to continue working with the generated gearset.
Viewing and understanding materia estimates
Scrolling down here in View Mode, you can see that the estimated number of materia required for your planned set have already been automatically calculated. The default confidence rate is set to .70, which should be an appropriate estimate for how many materia you'll need with "average" luck, but may be edited as you wish. It is also possible to toggle "Include tools for the other jobs too"; this will multiply the number of materia you've selected for your tools across all jobs that should share that gear, so that you can collect enough for all of them.
In this default View Mode, you may also easily mark off your current melding progress in melding the set as you go, using the checkboxes next to each materia in the set:
How to create a List from a Gearset
The generated list will only include one set of tools (mainhand and offhand) even if you enabled counting materia for other tools. Please use the Search function to add the appropriate tools you want for other jobs, as Teamcraft cannot glean this information from the gearset alone.
Using the Lists page to generate a list from your Ariyala/etc. meld set (less convenient than importing to the Gearsets tool)
In the new menu, you will want to enter your Ariyala/etc. link into the text box, and enable the "Estimate required materias for overmelding" option.
After enabling the estimate option, you can choose to multiply the materia required for tools if you intend to meld tools for all crafters, or for both Mining and Botany. Fishing is not included here, as its tools are different than the other 2 gathering jobs.
Finally, select "Import" and Teamcraft will produce a list of the average amount of items required to complete the Ariyala/etc. list you imported.
You may now easily create a list to complete the gear and track how many materia you've collected out of the required amount by clicking the "Generate a list" button in the upper-right. The generated list will include the expected materia required as calculated by the Gearsets tool.
At the top of the Lists page, click the button to "Import list from external website".
